Our Initial Focus
- Take practical action that can be implemented on the ground where it’s needed as well as focusing on the long-term goals for our town
- Deliver measurable outcomes linked to 2030 outcomes
- Enable businesses to pool their resources and ideas, reducing the duplication of efforts and maximising impact through collaboration
- Act as forum for sharing best practice around creating social value across businesses and beyond
- Provide opportunities to communicate positive outcomes within Bolton and amongst business networks
Our Key Measures Of Success
- Number of businesses contributing to the activity of the Bolton Family
- Number of businesses taking action collaboratively.
- Number of positive outcomes in the community (defined differently by each activity, but not restricted to volunteers and monetary donations)
- Number of positive press and communications.
- (measures relating to current priority campaigns e.g. number of children supported via Bolton Lunches, number of toys collected for Christmas appeal, etc.)
- (measures relating to the outcomes in terms of any Vision priorities which the group decides to focus on)
Our Refreshed Focus
VCSE, Communities & People
Connect to the local Bolton community through the Voluntary Community and Social Enterprise sector:
- Link your social value activities with the expertise and experience of the VCSE sector to make a real impact in communities through working in partnership.
Engage with the growing social enterprise sector (SE) in Bolton:
- Mentor social entrepreneurs; introduce SE’s into your supply chain; invest in start-up or growth grants to support the development of the sector and organisations committed to positive change in our communities.
Invest in the Bolton VCSE sector:
- Invest in Bolton’s Fund, a grants programme that supports communities at a grass-roots level to making a tangible impact and difference to the lives of the people in Bolton
Business, Responsible Employers
Increase the Bolton Family business network of responsible employers
- Become a member of the Bolton Family
Set targets to promote the good employment charter including;
- Find out about becoming a Real Living Wage employer enabling Bolton to become a Real Living Wage Place
- Support and become a member of the Good Employment Charter
Help to raise funds for Bolton’s Fund

We want to bring together Bolton based public sector/anchor institutions to create a Bolton social value way of working to maximise impact – we are stronger together!
What does this mean?
- Establish an agreed language for Social Value in Bolton – what does social value mean for us in our town?
- Promote opportunities for small and medium sized businesses and the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector in Bolton.
- By connecting and making social value pledges, we can all work together for Bolton
- Tell our story, raise awareness of social value, learn from the challenges and celebrate outcomes achieved
